Mar 31 - Nasdaq-100 Open

Yesterday evening, I went to Miami (Key Biscayne) to watch the Nasdaq 100 tennis tournament. Since the company I work for (ADT) is sponsoring this event, I got a free suite ticket to watch the game!

We watched couple of games. It was absolutely awesome watching the game up-close. The first game was kind of boring, women's quarterfinals between 2 unknowns: Eleni Daniilidou and Karolina Sprem. But the men's game was interesting: Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand vs Vincent Spadea of USA (Boca). Srichaphan won the 1st set 7-5 quite comfortably. It got real exciting when Srichaphan was down in the second set and a young bunch from Thailand started chanting (in Thai language I guess) and throbbing every once in a while. And the American fans would counter with their own chants. Fun stuff! As expected the player I was rooting for lost. You guessed it, Srichaphan somehow managed to lose the next 2 sets 3-6, 2-6.

Being a tennis fan, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was a blast! I will upload some photos/videos of the game soon.

Mar 06 - Test your I.Q.

Yesterday night, I watched Test The Nation2 on FOX. Thanks to Mavs' lackluster play against Spurs, I could watch and take the entire test. I got 53 out of 60 questions right, meaning an I.Q. of 125.

Feb 28 - Movie about Hope, Love and Acceptance

Today I went to the Palm Beach County Library hoping to find a *feel good* movie. I go there once in a while to redeem my membership fee I paid, though I live in the same county (thanks to Boca Raton city council). Anyways, I picked up a movie called Fiddler on the Roof.

Its about a poor milkman leading his family with 5 daughters in a small village in Russia. This movie centers around the family, their traditions and the breakup of values in the family. One of the great movies I have seen in a while. I am not necessarily a fan of musicals, but this movie has catchy tunes and helps in telling the story even better. A must see!!

Quoting New York Post - "'Fiddler on the Roof' is like your grandmother's house: a place to renew old values and get your soul scrubbed out. If you're lucky enough to have it still, be wise enough to visit it often."

Feb 25 - AppFuse - A fuse to start your apps!

While checking out Hibernate for object persistence, I came across AppFuse, a sub-project of struts.sf.net. Its a sample web application developed using the following technologies: Ant, XDoclet, Hibernate, JUnit, Cactus, StrutsTestCase, Canoo's WebTest, Struts Menu, Display Tag Library, JSTL and Struts.

Is this cool or what! Can Java web development get any easier?

Feb 22 - Lunch at the temple

I went to Shiva Vishnu temple today on the occasion of Shivaratri (I agree, its couple of days ago). Its the best temple I have seen in US in terms of the setting, its architecture and statues of the deities. Considering the fact that there are no South Indian restaurants here, its a double whammy. How about this for lunch as prasadam?

Feb 22 - Beware of paper cuts!!

Quiznos have the best subs, and some attitude! Thanks to Mike Pinkerton's blog where I first heard about it, check this ad about coupons. It cracks me up. Can't get enough of it? I love the moon.

Feb 21 - Into Thin Air of Mt. Everest

Its been ages since I read a novel. I frequently hang out at the Barnes and Noble bookstore to read Java books and occasionally some tech magazines. While browsing through the store this time, I picked up a book from Non-fiction/Adventure section called 'Into Thin Air', a personal account of the Mt. Everest disaster. Just finished reading the first chapter, out of 20+ chapters :) So far its a fascinating read, I like the writing style. I'll keep you posted.
