S.A.G.A. Tax Grievance Process
SAGA recommends that Property Owners who believed have been assessed unfairly to follow this simple process:

1) Find out the sales of properties similar to yours (in Size, Condition, Land configuration and location) which took place in the past year and see if there are large discrepancies with your assessment (Recent sales can be obtained from the assessors office or from a Real Estate agent).

2) Verify the Tax Roll by reviewing assessed value of similar properties in your immediate neighborhood and see if there are large discrepancies. (The Tax Roll is available for review at the Assessors Office)

3) Should you find such discrepancy, make an appointment with the assessors office to review your findings and try to resolve the issue.

4) If you have not resolve the issue, you should file a formal grievance before May 24th, 2005 by delivering the appropriate paper work to the Assessors Office on or Before May 23rd, 2005. Please note that you do not have to meet with the Assessor to file your grievance, neither do you have to attend the review board on May 24th, though SAGA strongly recommends this. 5) If your grievance is turned down by the Review Board you can then engage legal action through the courts to attempt to resolve further. Please note that there are usually substantial legal costs associated with this procedure. Consult your attorney for further details.
