Flying Fabric Dragons

One day when it all got too much
He walked onto the heath
To find a spot in the open
Where he could fall asleep.

The grass around his head
Fluttered in the breeze
Tickling his ears
And he wondered for a moment
About ants crawling in
But the sun warmed him through
Until his eyes began to droop.

He listened for a while
To the carried sounds
Of the city below the heath,
To the people that hadn´t
Found it all too much yet,
And he was slowly drawn away
Into a silent place.

A sudden snap in the wind
And above him in the sky
A red and purple dragon
Blotted out the light
Then dipped sharply
Only to rise again
With the edges of its wings
Ruffling against the burning sun.

Then another, and another
Until a family of dragons
Hovered over him
And for a moment
He was enraptured
Until he saw white strings
Flitting in and out of the sky.
