Safe Return's Basic Survival Curriculum:
SURVIVAL AVOIDANCE Learning how to plan so that the probability of a survival situation is lessened.  You'll also learn how to construct and use a "Save Your Fanny Pack" that will see you through a typical 72 hour or longer wilderness survival situation.

MAINTAINING A POSITIVE SURVIVAL ATTITUDE  You'll learn how to overcome and cope with the fears associated with being lost, injured and surviving.  You'll learn how to set the right example for others that may share your situation.

FIRST AID & KEEPING FI
T  In this all important aspect of surviving the wilderness, you will benefit from your instructor's experience as career emergency medical technician.  You will learn the basics of CPR,  techniques to stop bleeding, how to treat various trauma,  how to treat sprains and broken bones,  how to deal with snake and insect bites, and  how to avoid and treat hypothermia and hyperthermia.

SHELTER & PRIMATIVE TOOL
S You'll learn how to select shelter sites, how to build emergency wilderness shelters from materials you carry  and other available resources.  You'll also learn how to build and use primative tools.

FIRES & SIGNALIN
G  You'll learn the basic principles of fire laying,  the different kinds of tinder to use, how to best cook and stay warm,  and how to build the best types of signal fires in differing weather conditions. You'll also learn the best signals to use to get the attention of
aerial and ground search teams.

WATE
R  You'll learn the body's minimum water requirements under varying temperature conditions, how to locate water sources, how to extract water from the ground, and what to consider environmentally when finding water as well as how to make your water safe to drink.

FOOD
You'll learn primitive fishing, wilderness foods to utilize and those to avoid, wilderness cooking, and how to build basic snares and basic field game preparation.

LAND NAVIGATIO
N You will learn when to travel and when not to travel,  what methods to use to find your way to safety, things to avoid, how to work within your limitations,  how to evacuate an injured person and more 

                                                        
Equipment You Will Need
About Your Instructor
Your instructor is Mike Marcon. A Commercial Pilot with over six thousand hours, his advanced survival training came from operations with Special Forces Groups at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and Ft. Steward, Georgia.  His winter survival training was conducted at various locations in Europe.  A sport parachutist with over 1,200 jumps since 1962, Mike is the only known instructor chosen to teach survival for jumps made into the Florida Everglades.  He is also a career Emergency Medical Technician.  A survivor of two aircraft crashes as well as an avid outdoorsman, he is uniquely qualified in the survival arts.
