One thing I have discovered in my research is that there seems to be a big difference in ages from one record to another. Oh, my connection is through Timothy Dorgan. His daughter, Annastasia, married Patrick Donovan. I am a descendant Patrick and Annastasia. Somehow Timothy is related to Catherine Dorgan O'Connell. It appears you have gotten your info from some of the same sources I have, but I'll give you what I have come up with just to make sure. I have only done research in LaSalle County and a little in Grundy. Would like to get back to Grundy soon and do further research.
Here's what I have-
Photocopy of page 59, 1850 Grundy Co. Census, Town of Arienna (Erienna), showing John and Elizabeth O'Connell and children- Daniel, William, John, Jerome, Elizabeth, Thomas and Francis. Jerome being Daniel Francis ( Jerome Francis) father. A photocopy from Morris newspaper titled "One of Pioneers In County" about the William O'Connell family. Probably taken from a book you list as a source. A photocopy of The Petition of Catherine O'Connell , showing her as the aunt of Jeremiah Dorgan, died Sept. 1, 1856, and buried St. Columba Cemetery, Ottawa Illinois. Jeremiahs stone reads Jeremiah Dorgan Died Sept.. 1, 1856 Aged 24 yrs Native of Glanmire, County Cork, Ireland. On the same stone as Jeremiahs is William O,Connell Jr.'s name Died July 6, 1851 Aged 20 yrs 9 months.
A photocopy of (3 pages) Affidavit of Daniel Francis O'Connell, concerning an 80 acres in section 19, Freedom Township that he inherited through wife Ellen M. O'Connell(Dorgan). Ellen got the land, along with brother John W. Dorgan, when aunt Catherine O'Connell died in 1871. Catherine got the land when son William Jr. died unmarried. William Jr. got the land when father William Sr. died. William Sr. got the original land patent from the govt. It also says that Mary Dorgan, mother of Ellen and John W., was Catherine O'Connell's sister in law.
A copy of page 150, 1870 LaSalle County Census, Freedom Township showing Timothy Dorgan (spelled Daragan) living on land that Catherine O'Connell owned. Living with him is a Mary Dorgan (not his wife or daughter) and her children Laurence, Michael, JOHN and ELLEN. All children born in NY. I assume that this is the Ellen that married Jerome O'Connell and the John W. Dorgan who died in Chicago. Both inheriting this piece of land.
Other info- Elizabeth O'Connell, sister of Jerome or daughter of Daniel, is shown on page 272 of LaSalle Co. census, vol. 1, 1870, Manlius Twp., as a servant in the Underhill household, age 25, born IL. Catherine O'Connell is shown on page 126, LaSalle Co. Census 1870, vol. 2, City of Ottawa. Living alone, age 75, born IR.
Daniel O'Connell, brother of Jerome, son of John and Elizabeth, is shown on page 3A of Grundy Co. Census, Erriena Twp.age 38, born Maine, with wife Mary and children Mary, John, William,
Ellen, Jerome and Daniel. Daniel is also shown in 1860 census, same twp., additional children- Elizabeth, Thomas, Francis and Ann.

Any ideas? My thought is that Catherine Dorgan O'Connell was Timothy Dorgan's sister and that the husband of Mary ? Dorgan was also a brother. Catherine's husband William, was son of William who died in Kentucky and brother to John. The Jeremiah Dorgan shown above was not Timothy's son. It's possible he was Mary Dorgan's son and arrived before the rest of family. Apparently Mary's husband must have died in New York. Have you found Mary's or Ellen's obituaries or death certificates? Would like to know who Mary's husband was. Hope this has helped and not confused you.
