The powers that be have, over the past few
years, been inventing a new language to help us feel better about what they are
doing. Here are a few examples and their meaning:
1. eliminate - kill
2. terminate - kill
3. take out - kill
4. neutralize - kill
5. covert action - kill
6. collateral damage - kill
7. sanctions (some) - kill
Why have the powers that be invented this new language? Could it be that if
they told it as it is their masters, the people, would rein them in? Could it
be they are trying to desensitize us to carnage and the killing of innocents…on
the other side that is? I don't believe the term "collateral damage"
has ever been used in reference to victims on our side, eg, "today
terrorists struck at our…….and we sustained severe collateral damage".
What would happen if the government announced " today we have imposed
sanctions that will, in due course, result in the death of civilians
particularly children and women. The sanctions may or may not have an effect on
those targeted, because they tend to ensure that they are being looked
after"?
Or perhaps this, "we have undertaken covert action in………and achieved our
aim, however there was some collateral damage," meaning perhaps "we
have conducted a sneak attack in…….and succeeded, however in the process we
also killed and/or wounded a number of civilians including old people, women
and children"?
Why are they afraid to say this?
Do governments tell the truth…no… and there are sufficient recorded incidents
to illustrate this. Do governments tell us everything……certainly not. This is
where those phrases "in the national interest" and "protecting
sensitive sources" come in very handy, if they are pushed. Otherwise it is
a matter of "what they don't know won't hurt them". Unfortunately it
does. Lack of information is as bad as misinformation.
I do not doubt that there are instances that justify withholding information,
but I also believe that these excuses are used for other inappropriate
reasons…..like protecting political butts. I think the name of the game is
political expediency.
We send our brave, young men and women (some of whom like to consider
themselves warriors) into battle or dangerous situations. Governments give them
a big cheer and build up when they leave and another one when they come back,
those that do. But, they do not tell them that perhaps a few years down the
track they may become ill, or produce children who are not as they should be,
because of exposure to radioactive ammunition, being pumped full with cocktails
of vaccines or exposed to chemical sprays. They do not tell them that in that
event the government will fight them tooth and nail to prevent payment of
compensation or provide additional medical treatment.
I have also seen documentaries produced by the government, or sanctioned by the
government, showing these amazing bunkers certain sections of the government,
military and other chosen groups can duck into in the event of a nuclear
strike. They are well stocked with food, clean water, medicines and other
necessities. I'm sorry, but I have never seen the equivalent for the people of
the country, the children especially. But this is not made clear in these
documentaries. C'mon fellas, stay on top with the rest of us.
I am sure that if governments "told it as it is" we would understand
what is happening a lot better, and then proper solutions not requiring the use
of our youth as canon fodder, or the use of their youth as targets, would be
found.
C'mon governments of the world, show real courage, go to your people and
"tell it as it is."
Wishing all a peaceful life,
Richard
