Happiness Is Measured Out In Miles

CHAPTER TWENTY NINE

I blinked a couple of times not knowing if what I was seeing was a dream or something real. Edu was there, smiling, surrounded by cases.

I led Edu upstairs and directed her towards my own room, the bedroom John and I shared.

I helped her unpack her cases while she updated me with the reason for her to be back in England.

Well, I didn’t tell her but they would be as happy as could be.

We immediately started making plans. First thing was going for Eli and going shopping. We needed a bed for Edu. Once John was back, there was no way she could be sleeping in the same room as us. We also ended up buying lots of clothes, as usual, and we went back home laughing as hysterics and full of bags.

The phone was ringing when we entered.

And that was how we spent the next few days, making plans and thinking of reactions towards a positive reaction from George or a negative reaction.

The news announced the Beatles were coming in a couple of days. Edu’s anxiety grew by seconds and I decided it wasn’t a good idea to go to the airport. Edu agreed. Among all the girls, reporters, journalists and confusion, Edu wouldn’t be able to see properly George’s reaction so we both decided to wait at home. Eli would go.

The day finally arrived. John hadn’t told me anything, as usual, but we found out via the news that their plane would arrive more or less at 9.30 a.m. Not that it wasn't too early, we couldn’t sleep a blink that night, but we both knew what followed, Pictures here and there, a press conference after the arrival, questions, fans screaming... John wouldn’t be home until more or less midday. So, while I prepared breakfast, Edu watched the news. It was absolutely about the Beatles, and it showed again and again their arrival.

God, John was so sexy. He was wearing dark sunglasses and was holding a bag with his name. Edu screamed when she saw them and I laughed:

The time before John was finally home was longer than ever. Edu was so nervous that she hardly had a bite in the whole morning.

We finally heard the door unlock. I jumped and Edu just let out a little scream. I went towards the door to meet John, that way he wouldn’t see Edu before planned.

Oh, there he was. So sexy. As usual, his hair was longer any time but my heart sank all the same every time I saw him after a long time. He was looking around him, no wonder because the hall was painted and half furnished and when John left it was only an empty room. But I couldn’t help it.

John grabbed me by the waist and made me sit on his lap. It was late summer and I was wearing a short top, so John started caressing my back while Edu spoke. I started to feel aroused and John noticed. I could also feel his tremendous hard-up pressed against my ass.

When I woke up the next morning, Edu was already in the kitchen.

John didn’t wake up until well past afternoon. When he did, he didn’t even have breakfast, he just came to kiss me and announced he was going out.

Edu and I wanted to have everything prepared by when the boys arrived. We had spent hours rehearsing the things Edu should say to any different reaction from George. We had also bought dinner and we would have it delivered at 22.00 more or less.

I was in the bathroom when they came. Edu would hide somewhere and would appear when she considered it necessary. When I came out from the bathroom they were all giggling and laughing. I didn’t show up and I wondered if they had already seen Edu or not. I couldn’t hear her voice so I assumed they hadn’t seen her yet. They couldn’t stop laughing and I wondered what would be so funny.

Then, suddenly, the laughter stopped. I stood still a couple of feet away from the living room with my heart beating fast in my chest. Nothing, silence. Then I knew Edu was there, that they had seen her. Then I decided to show up.

When I entered the living room, Edu was standing still near the table and George, Paul and John were seated on the sofa with very very weird looks on their faces. They were so weird that I could assure I had never seen John with that face.

I came closer and they heard my footsteps. They turned their faces to me:

Edu came to me, grabbed my arm and took me out of the room.

We were both afraid of coming back to the living room. It was as though the boys we used to know had suddenly turned into strangers. I had the feeling I didn’t know John.

But there was silence when we approached the living room. Edu and I looked at each other and I think we both thought the same, that they had left the room. But they hadn’t. When we entered, the scene had changed completely. They were seated in exactly the same position as before, but they were as though they had been working a lot and were resting. The shining eyes had disappeared and they looked sort of tired.
