Concert Review: Cold @Philadelphia's Bar & Grill - Feb/4/03
|
Did you catch Cold when they were touring in support of their last album 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage? Bet you never saw a show like the one March 4th at the Fire @ Philadelphia's Bar & Grill.
The band is currently on what is being billed as "Cold - an exclusive sneak peak performance of songs from the new album - Year of the Spider. Due to stage constrictions at this venue, it was either cancel the show or play acoustic - they chose the later. What a performance it was!
Singer Scooter Ward and guitarist Terry Balsamo started off the set with songs from 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage. The set was reminescent of VH1's Storytellers as Scooter would talk before the songs and give some explainations to them. Before "No One" Scooter spoke of how this song was written for his mother.
After being joined on stage by drummer Sam McCandless and bassist Jeremy Marshall ( guitarist Kelly Hayes was in the crowd being a heckler according the Scooter due to only having one acoustic guitar on tour with them), the band debuted songs off the soon to be released Year of the Spider. Scooter told the crowd that they had "never played these songs acoustic". For not having played these tracks acoustic in the past, this was an amazing show.
Their current single, "Stupid Girl" was written by Rivers Cuomo of Weezer. Scooter talked about how the song "doesn't sound like a Cold song, it sounds like a Weezer song" and he had trouble writing lyrics to it so he had Rivers also write the lyrics. After the song, Scooter remarked sarcasticly how the "song Rivers wrote gets the biggest applause of the night." As the set continued that was not to remain as "Just Got Wicked" and the last song of the night "Strip Her Down" received much more applause.
After the set the band hung around and signed autographs and talked with the fans as the entire new cd was played in the club.
