CARLSKIN: What bands did the NY Relx come from, if any?

ADI: the NY Rel-X didn't evolve from any other bands... we're our own band..but we were called The Relix and had to change the name cause we were getting sued by a stupid hippie magazine called RELIX...whatever.. they were some what affiliated with music so we were forced to alter the name..funny coming from people who promote bootlegs..

CARLSKIN: How long have you guys been together?

ADI: We've been around for almost 2 years.. we started around march 2000 and played our first show may 2000..

CARLSKIN: What bands were yuy guys members of?

ADI: Erika used to sing for Banner of Hope a couple of years ago and Jon our drummer is the singer and songwriter for the Krays and also plays in the band Roger Miret and the Disasters....Everybody has a lot going on.. Murat and I are virgins..hahah! We've never played in bands before!!!

BRANDY: Where are you from?

ADI: some of us are from NJ and some from NY, me(Adi) i live in NJ.

BRANDY: Who started the band & when?

ADI: I started the band in March of 2000, something like that with Jon.

BRANDY: How often does the band tour/do gigs?

ADI: We play a lot of gigs. atleast 3 times a month for average, and we have toured a lot for the little amount of time we've been together..We've been to Europe already, played the Holidays in the Sun festival and have been gigging up and down the east coast a couple of times. But we do gig a lot in NY and the surrounding areas.

BRANDY: Where do you typicaly play?

ADI: hahaha We play CBGB's all the time!!!

BRANDY: How far has the band toured, which was your fav & why?

ADI: furthest is europe, we had a great time! but our furthest favorite shows were in Atlanta! i guess i can only speak for myself but i'm pretty sure the band feels the same way! We have a lot of friends in Atlanta and they are awesome, always treating us real good and the vibe was always there! Cheers to Chet and APA.

BRANDY: What do you like best about touring/playing shows?

ADI: Everything! you get to meet a lot of new people..most good people aren't in one place and are scattered all over the world and when you tour you get to meet them! I guess you also get to see if you are any good, i mean you play in NY all the time, you are surrounded with people you know and friends, they are gonna like you regardless, you go out of town, that's the real test if you are shit or not! Did that make sense?? hahahha! Atleast it did to me! Anyway, i love music and i love playing! and if people can appreciate and love the music i write and produce then i guess that's the best thing about it! it makes me feel proud.

BRANDY: What is your audience like or it it always different?

ADI: Audience? we play to punx!! I mean i don't think we've played to anyone else. there's always other random kinds of people in the crowd but it's all the same shit, if people can come support a band no matter if it's punk or not, it's good in my book!

BRANDY: What is your fav NYRELX album & song and why?

ADI: album..hmmmm none yet, we are working on it! well our paranoia ep will be out in 1 month so i guess you can say that's my fav..hahha! song??? welll..i dont' know i have a couple..Paranoia, She's Got a Gun and Victims.. Why?? ....paranoia i just love the beat, i would listen to it if it wasn't my band and love it same with she's got a gun! funny, my friend dave glass who does all our artwork had drawn a picture of a girl with a gun and that was my idea to write the song, i was inspired by his awesome artwork! and that's when it came to me, and i love the beat to that song too! Victims, it's a very important song to me! lyrics wise atleast, and jon wrote the music to that song, it's awesome.

BRANDY: Tell me something crazy or memorable that has happened at a show or during a tour that sticks in your mind?

ADI: crazy!! i don't know yet, i dont' think anything too big happened to us! if i remember i'll come back to the question!!

BRANDY: Do your shows ever get chaotic?

ADI: nobody riots if that's what you mean, but people dance and sing along..which is really cool!

BRANDY: What are the NYRELX influences & motivations? What are the NYRELX all about?

ADI: well we are all influenced by different types of music and people. i mean me, i love the cure, new model army, sisters of mercy, the smiths a lot of 80s new wave, murat loves a lot of rock n roll like the Boys and Hanoi Rocks, and jon loves ac dc, metallica, the who and erika loves everything like me,lots of oldies, 80s, motley crue, elvis presley, also new model army..this is all besides our favorite all time punk bands...mine, tsol, the adicts, violators, avengers, etc... and the list goes on...the NY Rel-X are about having fun and being who we are, and i'm sure you can see that with our music.. we dont' try to preach one thing.. we just have bits and peices of different things..fiction, stories, maybe some political shit, but not too crazy, just some opinions and feelings..

BRANDY: Who could you compare NYRELX to if any?

ADI: i guess we get compared a lot to the violators and vice squad, i mean we have singing, very melodic vocals so ofcourse you are automatically compared to one of those bands..i don't mind being compared cause everyone is compared to someone.. when someone asks you what a band sounds like you automatically have to say similar to"........" -something right??? We get compared to the Avengers alot too, probably because weve always covered their songs!

BRANDY: What are your plans for the future? Anything up your sleeve?

ADI: lots of plans!!! new ep in a month..out on dirty faces records in germany, it'll be out in the states on a different label soon enough, i'm not sure who yet.. also, a split 7" with antidote on the same label... we're recording for a full length in a couple of months..you can check out our webpage for the info, we always got different things going on..

BRANDY: What are you guys into? What else do you do with your time away from band practice & shows?

ADI: i'm a bartender and i run punknite booking and 45 revolutions records with Chet from the band APA. Jon, is in the Krays and also Roger Miret and the Disasters. Murat goes to school in NYC and is busy being a guitar hero...hahha and Erika works for a record company advertising Boy bands..hahahha!

BRANDY: What movies you into? Any favs? (on a personal note) ADI: me, i love the 80s movies, pretty in pink, valley girl, but my new all time favorite is Little Nicky and if you haven't seen it yet! you must!! Jon loves all those horror movies like Bloodfeast, Evil dead and all that shit.. Wait the bands favorite cartoon is SpongeBob Squarepants!!!

BRANDY: What is the coolest vacation you have ever been on, where?

ADI: coolest vacation, i go to israel a lot, it's awesome! i love going there! it's weird, it's a vacation but not, i used to live there a swell.. So...  I guess you can call it a vacation.Murat goes to Turkey all the time, i dont' know you'd have to ask him!

BRANDY: What do you generally hate?  (Anything, anyone):

ADI: yes there's one person I hate but I rather not say who!

BRANDY: What do you generally like?  (Anything, anyone):

ADI: wow!! I can write a book about all the things I like but seriously I can't even think of one main thing.weird!  Touring, travelling!  Ohh wait!  Eating everything bagels with cream cheese and olives!  Oh wait and having Dunken Donuts everyday!  A MUST!

BRANDY: Who writes the songs and music?

ADI: ok well!  I write most of it and Jon does too!  We are all starting to write more together now as the band progresses.  I mean if you ask what songs I can tell you who wrote what..like paranoia, I wrote, she's got a gun me and Jon wrote..Whatever..It goes on and on...

BRANDY: Do you have anything to say to your fans & potential fans out there?

ADI: who's ever supported us up to now!  Thank you!  We won't let you down!  And to everyone else who might be into us in the future!  I hope we give you what you're looking for in music!

BRANDY: Any shouts outs?

ADI: I wanna thank all our fans!  especially all the people who helped us out along the way! there are too many to thank! but I would specifically like to thank Dave glass for the artwork and being such a great friend..and Chet, Stu and Warren from APA, Volker from Dirty Faces Records for putting out our EP and you Brandy for being so cool and hooking us up with the interview!  I owe one!!! Cheers girl!

BRANDY: Any other comments, tips, advice in general or for those watching & logging onto Sacto Punk Scene and Sactomatic?

ADI: Dont' give in to the bullshit!  If you are not in it for the music GET OUT!  I hope you like the interview and the N.Y. Rel-X See you next year in the West Coast!!!
