Yule Tree

The Yule Tree

She wanted the tree. She wanted to do this. She'd been planning on it and thinking about it for a very long time. Her own tree that she picked out and cut down herself. But, she was afraid. It seemed that she was always afraid of something. Afraid of being alone, afraid of being with people. Now, she was afraid of looking stupid or embarrasing herself. With butterflies in her stomach and tears of fear clogging her throat, she warily turned and walked back towards the car. Then she saw him. An unimposing figure with scraggly white hair and shining twinkling eyes. He looked at her as if to say, "it's alright, I will help you... you are safe with me." He wagged his tail and headed off toward the trees, looking over his shoulder to make sure she was following him. Looking in his eyes her fear forgotton, she walked along beside him. They would stop, and look at trees, and consider them. They looked at many. Walking along mainly in companionable silence. Finally they both stopped at a tree... the tree. It was lush and green with spritely little pine cones amoung it's boughs. He stopped, sat, and looked at her. "Is this the one?", she asked him, stroking his majestic head. He didn't have to answer, she knew, and he knew. This was the tree and she had found it without fear, without embarrasement. She had found it with joy and a lightness of heart. She had found it in peace. "Thank you.", she whispered to her companion. Taking the tree back to her own space she thought of how peaceful she felt. Looking at the tree now as it sat magickally lighted and decorated, she again felt that peacefulness. Now she offered her thanks to the Spirit of the beautiful tree, as well as to the Goddess and her four legged guide.
