Gaia

Greek

Gaia existed before time. She was the deep-breasted one, the Earth. Time was one of her children. Before Creation She existed to and of Herself alone.

Desiring of love She created a son Uranus. Who as the Heavens mated with Gaia and released Her creative forces. She then began to produce many creatures both marvelous and monstrous. Gaia the primeval Mother had to keep these new children hidden form Uranus' jealousy and destructiveness.

Soon Gaia's womb grew to heavy to bear. It was then that she created grey adamant, a new element. From this she fashioned a jagged tooth sickle. She gave it to her son Cronos who took the weapon and hid.

Drawing a dark sky blanket Uranus came to mate with his Mother/lover. He was surprised by his brother/son Cronos who hacked off his genitals. Blood from the mutilated sky God fell onto Gaia and impregnated Her.

The Erinyes and the Giants and the Ash tree nymphs sprang up. As well as the Meliae, who are the ancestors of humanity.

The Greeks taught this creation story to their children, even long after the Olympians came into being. Gaia was always the primeval prophet, it was to her that the Greeks swore their deepest oaths of loyalty, as they recognized her ancient Sovereignty.
