Her name means movement toward the rising sun. In Anglo-Saxon her name became Estre which survives today in the Christian festival of rebirth: Easter, as well as in the mood encouraged in springtime estrus. She is honoured amoung the German people with painted eggs a tradition that survives today. Ostara's feast day is on the Vernal Equinox.
