Vashti

Elamite

She appears in the Hebrew book of Esther, where She is queen of the Persians as well as the State's High Priestess. She was a diplomat and daughter of a king. She married king who was a drunken fool.

One night Her husband demanded that She appear before his friends naked. She refused saying, "have you lost your reason from drinking? I am Vashti, granddaughter of Nebuchadnezzar who scoffed at kings."

Intent on replacing Vashti with a woman from his tribe, a Hebrew advisor told the king to sentence Her to death. This would make Her a fearful example for other women who wanted control over their own bodies.. The king followed this advice.

Queen Vashti's people then rose against him. The uprising was only put down when Esther ascended the throne.
