The crane being stronger won easily. Ailsie vowed that she would never marry the crane or anyone else. Her father was furious and swore to kill her unless she married. Ailsie asked for a reprieve of seven days and her father granted it. During this time she wept so much she turned into a deep pool in the Etowah river.
