Internet pop-up adds run through javascript in your browser.  There are a few ways to eliminate them.  One, turn off javascript in your internet browser (unfortunately this disables java for all uses, not just pop-ups).  Two, download/buy/pirate a pop-up blocker (which is a program that allows you to toggle on/off whether or not Adservers can throw pop-ups windows at your monitor.  Three, and the cheapest/easiest way, is to edit your "hosts" file so that when a java line tells your computer to open a pop-up from one of the servers listed in the hosts file, it can't find it, and thus doesn't load.  Essentially, you are redirecting java Adserver commands to somewhere that doesn't exist (eg. IP address 0.0.0.0)  All you need to do is open your hosts file and copy/paste so your list matches the list contained in the shotglass below.  (NB: This doesn't block all pop-ups, but will greatly reduce the amout that you get...Try searching around for more comprehensive lists...at your own risk.  This one is accreddited.)
Locating your hosts file:

Windows 95/98 - c:\windows\hosts
Windows NT/2000 - c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Windows XP - c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
