主題：廿一世紀的科技及理財面面觀
|
聖安東尼華裔專業協會(SACPA)於4月21日(星期六)假聖道大學圖書館演講廳(Library Auditorium, University of Incarnate Word) 舉行2001年春季研討會，主題為：「廿一世紀的科技及理財面面觀」。SACPA特別邀請到四位遠道而來的專家學者與會，以深入淺出的方式用中文講述每個領域之現況及未來發展方向，精湛可期。務令與會者對這些生活中息息相關的應用知識，有更深入的瞭解與收穫。
大會所邀請到的主講人皆經驗豐富及在專業領域上頗負盛名。當日上午(9:00~12:00)特別邀請施敏男博士講解中國最深奧的「易經」精髓。中華民族最寶貴之智慧財產，就是易經。易經被列為百經之首，六藝之冠。萬人敬仰之至聖先師孔夫子，感曰：「加我數年，五十以學易，可以無大過矣」。可見易經之價值。易經是記述中華民族古代文化思想，以真理細微天地人事物之間之錯綜複雜之關係，說明字宙萬物及人類社會進化之法則。涵蓋天文、地理、物理、化學、人文、政治、經濟等範圍。諸如今日電腦之道理，可見於易經，其它更不勝枚舉。相信大家聆聽之後必有極大的收獲。
下午(1:00~5:00)的演講包括：(1)休士頓的應用光電公司總裁林誌祥博士解說新興的光電通訊的應用與前瞻；(2)奧斯汀的德州中醫學院校長曹平惠女士談論中國傳統醫學在美國的發展；(3)休士頓的嘉信理財(Charles Schwab)亞太區經理李錦苓女士解析目前股票市場的演變及個人投資；(4)亞特蘭大市的國際銀行董事長施敏男博士論述個人生涯規劃及退休規劃。整個研討會精采可期。除感謝各主講人肯為我們聖城大眾犧牲一個周末﹐貢獻自已精力準備演講外﹐亦感謝各界贊助人士與SPCPA共襄盛舉。我們熱烈地歡迎大家踴躍參加﹐增加華裔人士相互之間的交流。

Biography:
Mr. Sze earned his Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He got professional licenses/certifications in Equity and bond investment, Life, Accident and Health Insurance, Real estate, G.I.A. Diamond Appraiser. Mr. Sze's experience includes investment Advisor, Raymond James, investment Advisor, J.C. Bradford, Founder/Ex-Chairman, Global Commerce Bank, Develop/Manager of commercial real estate, etc. His community involvement includes Chief organizer/Founder, Monte Jade Science and Technology Association of Southeaster United States, Former president, the Chinese-American Academic and Professional Association of the Southeastern United States, etc.

The Development of Tunable VCSELs for DWDM Telecommunications

Speaker: Chih-Hsiang Thomson Lin, Ph.D.
President and CEO, Applied Opto Electronic
Biography:
Mr. Lin is the founder of AOI, and has more than 11 years of experience in the design, growth, processing, and testing of various electronic and optoelectronics devices. In particular, he is an expert in epitaxial growth and optoelectronics device design. Mr. Lin also has more than five years of experience as an executive manager of high-tech companies. His previous business experience includes two years as a Vice President and General Manager with QET Inc. Mr. Lin earned a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1993. His diverse work experience includes six years at the University of Houston Space Vacuum Center where, most recently, he served as a research associate professor. His research concentrated on advanced semiconductor lasers and photodetectors. Mr. Lin is the author or co-author of more than 90 journal papers and conference proceeding and many pending patents.
Traditional Chinese Medicine in the United States

Biography:
After finishing her formal education at the Ming Chuan College in Taiwan, Mrs. Lin completed a four-year internship under Dr. P. R. Sun, a well known Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor in Taiwan. Mrs. Lin has practiced in Texas for more than 20 years and was a pioneer in the successful effort to pass acupuncture practice legislation in Texas. The Governor Bush appointed her to the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners in 1993, making her the first female and youngest Board Member to serve. She was Chairperson of the Education Committee of the Board, and her work was instrumental in setting the high TCM standards in Texas.

As a leader of Schwab Houston team, Jeannie is very strong in designing personal investment profile gear to personal needs. She has 2 years experience as Signature Service Specialist to provide extraordinary services to this special group of customers, she also experienced in assist corporations to set up 401k plan with Schwab. Her major current responsibility is to lead a team in Houston to provide most ethical and professional financial services to Asia Pacific Customers and develop Asia-American market in Texas.
