    Newton and Ollying

    Presenter: Michael C. Yeh
Junior Student, Winston Churchill High School, Northeast School District, San Antonio, Texas

    摘要:

As I became more familiar with skateboarding, I wanted to do more game tricks, especially for ollying (jump up with the skateboard). I wanted to learn how can I accomplish these tricks in more efficient way. Therefore, I studied how gravity affects the skateboard as I ollie, go off ramps, and grinds. I found that a major part of this project was related to Newton's three laws - (1) Inertia, (2) F = ma, and (3) "For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction." I built a ramp and used a real skateboard to test these theories. All the actions of ollying can be explained by the Newton's laws. I was able to conclude that the laws are in fact true. These three laws affect everything we do and greatly affect each and every one of our lives. It affects every motion we go through in our daily lives, from walking to brushing teeth. As you will discover from looking through my charts and graphs, it also has a great impact on the world of skateboarding.
