Many professionals choose to have career in academia and find themselves enjoyable in teaching, researching and consulting. The academic life is in someway, different from that in corporate. For a fresh and new professor, it is very important for the first few years. You have many hours teaching assignments that requires many preparations. In the meantime, you need to do research and have paper published in professional journals. Then you need to get along with your colleagues so that you will be able to meet the criteria that advance you to a higher rank. Tenure is one of key things a new professor should strive for. To get research grant is also important factor to get promotion. Research fund allows you to have research assistants and the research projects are beneficial to students and to the department as well.
