Transportation Prospect for Taiwan and ChinaPresenter: Dr. Chia Shun (Rocky) Shih
摘要: Transportation Systems has been one of the most demand-oriented growth sector in both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Driven by both the increase of living standards and affordability of petroleum resource, highway construction and regional aviation have become the centerpiece of the transportation infrastructure investment in past two decades. Though Rapid Transit has also been weighed heavily in the overall plan of actions, its implementation process has been slowed downed by the lack of bureaucratic priority ranking and project financing viability. The current status of different modes of transportation infrastrusture development in both China and Taiwan will be reviewed. The prospect of future needs and on-going trend of development will be assessed. Based on feasible alternative means of financing, the prospects of future projects and business opportunities will be discussed. In view of the intermodal efficiency, and the urgent energy and environmental concerns, merits of the sustainable transportation systems will also be discussed.
