Microgravity Bioreactors for Frowing 3-Dimensional TissuePresenter: Dr. Wenshan Lee
摘要: Specialized mammalian cell culture bioreactors have been developed by NASA Biotechnology Program to establish three dimensional tissue models under microgravity environment in space. The Program objective are (1) to engineer normal tissue starting from individual cells, (2) to investigate the cell biology under microgravity environment, and (3) to support long-duration human space exploration. Different types of microgravity bioreactor have been flown on US the Space Shuttle and Russian space station Mir. In space, both 3-D cell aggregates and cell-attache constructs were able to grow larger than on Earth. The Program also has developed various supporting hardware in order to support the bioreactors in fully automatic operation. Noninvasive recovery of bioactive substances from microgravity bioreactor is also under development.
