Welcome to the 1999 Winter Conference jointly sponsored by the Association of American Chinese Professionals (AACP) and San Antonio Chinese Professional Association (SACPA). The two associations had opportunities to work together in the spirit of cooperation in the past. We now proudly present to you yet another fruit of our five-month long cooperative efforts. The theme of the 1999 Winter Conference is "Developments in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Business Opportunities." The pace of recent developments in science, technology and engineering is strikingly fast. These developments bring about opportunities for new business ventures, as well as change in all the areas that touch on our life. We must adjust to these changes, and embrace and take advantage of the new developments. This year, we focus on new developments in biotechnology and medicine, computer and information technology, and environmental and petrochemical technology. We have also arranged presentations dealing with economics and business opportunities, cultural changes brought on by internet, Chinese language education, and job market and career planning. We sincerely believe that you will find this information practical and useful. We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to all AACP and SACPA committee chairpersons and committee members who worked very hard to bring this Conference to fruition. We want to express our sincere appreciation to the coordinators, Dr. Jenny Yang - AACP Vice President and Dr. Chih-Ko Yeh - SACPA Vice President, for their dedicated efforts making this conference a success. We are grateful for receiving many supports from various organizations to make this event meaningful and successful. The supports from National Youth Commission and other organizations of Executive Yuan are deeply appreciated. A special thanks also goes to Mr. Edward Feng - Director General, Dr. Tina Yang - Director of the Science Division, and Dr. James H. H. Wu - Director of the Commercial Division, from Taipei Economic and Culture Office in Houston for their continuing support and guidance to the AACP and the SACPA. We hope you all have a good time at the Conference and visiting San Antonio. |
