The San Antonio Chinese Professionals Association (SACPA) was established in 1993 by a group of overseas Chinese scientists and scholars in the greater San Antonio area. This Association is registered as a non-profit organization in Texas. One of the main goals of SACPA is to promote research discussions and knowledge exchanges among overseas Chinese scholars. SACPA has been actively participating in many events in San Antonio and other Texas communities. The annual conference of SACPA has been held in November since 1993. The conference has been very successful and it attracts many Chinese scholars every year. In addition, SACPA holds many seminars during the year and invites reputable scholars and scientists as speakers and presenters. The Association also periodically publishes "SACPA Newsletter" to disseminate current events and news to the Chinese community. The SACPA is open to the general public. The major activities for SACPA in 1999 include the following events:
It's been quite a fruitful year, and I really appreciate committee members for their kindness and assistance.
THE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN-CHINESE PROFESSIONALS (AACP)
The Association of American-Chinese Professionals (AACP) is an association of Chinese American professionals with a wide variety of expertises including engineering, science, literature and business. AACP was founded in 1978 and headquartered in Houston, Texas. AACP Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The AACP Foundation recruits its members from five southern states in the U.S.: Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Currently, the AACP Foundation has a membership of approximately three hundred from those states. AACP Foundation's mission is to provide a home for the Chinese American professionals to share the experiences, to unite and to help each other, not only for this generation but also the generations to come. The goals of the AACP Foundation are to foster the development of technical, cultural and business networks, and promote the training of leadership skills. To achieve its goals, the AACP Foundation sponsors seminars and workshops to facilitate the exchange of professional knowledge and experience, coordinate training to enhance professional development and fellowship among its members, and grants scholarships to encourage youth leadership. Each year, a two to three-day conference called the Science, Engineering and Technology Seminars (SETS) is held in Houston in the late spring/ summer. A Winter Conference is held in a southern city other than Houston. These seminars and conferences cover many facets of science, technology, social science and business development, and almost always involve prominent guest speakers from academia, government, and big corporation from United States and Taiwan. The 1999 SETS drew about five hundred participants, while the 1999 Winter Conference, to be held jointly with the San Antonio Chinese Professional Association in San Antonio, Texas, is expected to be another success. The 2000 SETS has an addition of Business Expo, closing up the gap between the technical/engineering and business fields, which is anticipated to be another break-through. In addition to the annual SETS and Winter Conference, other seminars and workshops of a particular interest in any professional discipline are also held throughout the year. A few workshops have been held in the Republic of China on Taiwan in the past. We want to ask any person who share the mission and support the goals of the AACP Foundation, please join us. Together, we can do greater good for ourselves and the society. |
