Introduction to SAPMr. Tony D. L. Shen 沈東立 先生
摘要: After the Internet, SAP R/3 is one of hottest topics in the computer industry, and the company that develops the software, SAP AG, has become one of the most successful software giants in the world, enjoying a world class status like that of Microsoft or Oracle. SAP R/3 stands for "Systems, Applications, and Programming Facilities, a Real Time System, Release 3". Unlike desktop productivity software such as Microsoft Office or back-end database software such as DB2 or SQL Server commonly seen in use in many businesses large and small, SAP R/3 is a comprehensive three-tier or multi-layer client-server business management system targeted at large corporations, particularly multinational enterprises. It includes both front-end desktop software and back-end data storage and data processing software as well as communications middle ware needed in between to impact the entire organization that uses it to run its business. SAP R/3 is both a technology and a methodology to enable a company to highly computerize its business functions, namely, human resources, financials, production, inventory control, distribution, and marketing. Moreover, SAP R/3 can be configured to suite particular needs of different vertical markets. Among 6,000 or so installations worldwide, the adopters, including most of the US Fortune 100 companies, span a broad range of industries such as auto-manufacturing, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, health care, utilities, transportation, and telecommunications, just name a few.
