My Experience on Space Shuttle MissionsDr. Leroy Chiao 焦立中
摘要:
On his second mission, STS-72, Dr. Chiao flew aboard the space shuttle Endeavour, in January of 1996. The primary purpose of that flight was to retrieve a Japanese research satellite placed into orbit eight months prior. However, the highlight for Dr. Chiao was opportunity to lead two space walks (extravehicular activity, or EVA), aimed at evaluating construction techniques, hardware and tools, for the International Space Station. Dr. Chiao will present slides of his two space shuttle missions, and talk about his upcoming flight, on STS-92. This mission is currently scheduled to be launched in January of 1999, aboard the space shuttle Atlantis. Dr. Chiao is to lead the EVA team on this, the second American assembly flight for the space station.
簡歷: Dr. Chiao was selected by NASA as an astronaut for future space shuttle flight mission in 1991. He is a veteran of two space flights (1994 & 1996). Dr. Chiao has logged more than 567 hrs. in space, including two space walks. His technical assignments include: flight software verification in SAIL, Spacelab, Spacehab and payload issues, etc. He holds a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering and specialized in composites. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Univ. of California, Santa Barbara. |
