Dear Uncle, It is heartwarming to see that there are people like you in this world, who are passionate about wildlife and that, subject relating to wildlife, forestry and ecology drives your senses to such an extent, that, you have literally changed the face of Melghat Tiger Reserve.
I take this opportunity to congratulate you for what you have done for nature. After going through 'Mel-Vyaghra' and other pamphlets, giving a gist of what this fascinating natural reserve is all about, there is no doubt in my mind that truly, there has been commendable effort from your side to face-lift the image of Project Tiger and Forest Department on the whole.
I am also a nature lover and at times seriously think of becoming a wildlfer myself. I have fond memories of Melghat, which I used to often visit with my brother and friends, when papa was posted in Amravati. When I went through the pamphlet of MTR, I saw a map of the whole area and could relate with each and every place and routes shown on the map. I felt as if I was actually touring the MTR again.
In 1994-97, the time when we often visited Melghat, the area used to be divided in three divisions viz. East Melghat, West Melghat and South Melghat, which came under Amravati circle. Though the Project Tiger was there too, and had full control over areas like Koktu (the core zone), I strongly felt that the whole area of Melghat should be under Project Tiger control. It is really good to see that now, a specialized branch of forest department i.e . Project Tiger , is monitoring the whole area.
I have been pretty lucky as far as wildlife sighting in Melghat is concerned. I had a close encounter with two Tiger cubs during 1996, on my way back to kolkas from Rangubeli. Apart from this, I have sighted Leapords a number of times, in areas near Harisal, Kuapati and at the Kolkas Forest rest House itself (new one). What I dream of, is that some day I'll be able to accompany you for Tiger census in MTR. Though I have seen a bit of it at in the past, but it has not been able to fulfill my quest for Tiger census. I am inquisitive to know more and more about it. Jungle attracts me and my attention as if I am an inseperable part of it. It is good to see that you are taking a keen initiative to spread awareness about conserving wildlife and Tiger in Particular.
Congratulations once again to act like a true son of Nature. I wish you all the very best for what you are doing for the nature.
Yours truly, Sachin Shrama |
