| 2 September 2001 Sara-Marie's a Covergirl By Phillip Koch BIG Brother star Sara-Marie might not look like a typical covergirl, but she had a bigger impact on Australian women than any supermodel. And tomorrow her size 16 body will be on the cover of a mainstream women's magazine in a revolutionary break with tradition. "I think what she's done in her own way has been inspirational for women of all ages," said former Sexual Discrimination Commissioner, Susan Halliday. "I think more and more people want to see images of real people. It is really important that images promoted in the media reflect the realities of society." In a bold move, Cosmopolitan editor Mia Freedman selected Sara-Marie, 23, for the cover of the October issue of the magazine. "It's probably the first cover to use a woman over size 10 in mainstream women's magazines," Freedman said. "I was so completely inspired by the effect Sara-Marie has had on women's body image. I have never seen anything like it." Article from the Daily Telegraph |
