| 24 April 2002 All the Small Things Before the HMs entered the Big Brother house, they were asked to nominate five events of which they wanted to be informed if they occurred while they were inside. Kat's scaly friend was on her list of top priorities. Big Brother broke the news of its demise to Kat in the diary room yesterday afternoon. Through tears, Kat thanked Big Brother for telling her. At least I know, she said. As it turns out, Bubalah was tragically killed when Kat's friend Fiona, who was looking after the pet, washed its tank out with bleach. It seems that there were still some bleach traces in the tank when the fish was put back in, and it was soon found floating on the surface of the water. And in case you were wondering, 'Bubalah' is a Yiddish word meaning either 'grandmother' or 'baby'. Obviously, most HMs elected to be told if anything bad should befall their family and friends, including serious illness and death. Terrorist attacks or major wars were also high on the HMs agenda. Other housemates listed natural disasters, pet wellbeing, lottery wins and the success of family members falling pregnant. One hopeful housemate listed knowing if and when his favourite footy team was on top of the ladder, and another wanted to be told how good the upcoming Star Wars movie was. And then there was the housemate who wanted to be told of any imminent alien attack. Hmmm. Hopefully, Big Brother wont need to inform the HMs of any other bad news while they are in the house. Telling Kat Bubalah had passed was hard enough. But Big Brother handled the situation with the soothing qualities of any professional counsellor. BB: Is there anything I can do for you? Kat: No its fine, its cool. BB: Was it expected? Kat: No, its just something I wanted to be notified about. We can only hope that little Bubalah is resting peacefully in fishy heaven and that Kat feels better soon. |

| Yesterday, Kat received some devastating news from the outside. A beloved family member had died. Luckily it was only her pet goldfish, Bubalah, and the information came not through a breach of Big Brother protocol, but as the first example of a little-known courtesy extended to housemates. |
