| 22 April 2002 Damian's Kiss of Death By Amanda Meade AUSTRALIA voted selfish hunk Damian out of the Big Brother house in the first live eviction last night. The 21-year-old Queensland university student had hoped to buy a red sports car with the $250,000 prize and was stunned when he became the first of 12 inmates to be evicted. His sins? He hogged the only double bed, chased two women at once, ate too much food, farted constantly and paraded around in his undies. The eviction of the most overtly sexual housemate followed the pattern set last year by the Ten Network's first Big Brother, in which viewers evicted Andy the dominatrix at the first opportunity. The public's distaste of Damian's blokey ways resulted in a 40 per cent vote, leaving Turkan on 30.5 and Katrina on 29.5 to survive another week. While Katrina, 22, and Turkan, 30, irritated their housemates and spent a great deal of the past fortnight crying, the public saved them, targeting instead the overly confident Alpha male for removal. Damian provided much of the X-rated action on Big Brother Uncut, kissing and frolicking in bed with violin teacher Mirabai, 21, and egging the girls on when they engaged in same-sex kissing. As he was evicted from the house to face screaming fans in the Dreamworld Auditorium on the Gold Coast, his bedmate, Mirabai, was being comforted by her housemates. "I enjoyed it immensely," Damian told host Gretel Killeen, admitting he had "stepped on a lot of toes". The Seven Network remained third in the ratings race last week, lagging Ten's winning line-up of Big Brother and US comedies Becker and The All New Simpsons. Despite dropping 0.5 points in the eighth week of OzTAM surveys, Seven did at least get four shows in the top 20 -- having failed to get any in the previous survey. Article from The Australian |
