| Ever since I have known sounds I think I have listened to music.... It could have been the lullabies sung to me by my mother and as I grew older to the voices of Ghantasala, S.P.Balasubramaniam, Mohd. Rafi, Mukesh, Kishore Kumar. At the age of seven I first heard English music. The bands were Boney M, ABBA and Beatles. I enjoyed this music tremendously. Although I continued to listen to Hindi and Telegu film music it was English music that really captivated me at that young age....I had no ear for the Hindustani and Carnatic classical music...Some may say, "yehtho bahuth jhaldhi firunghi ban gaya!"...But I think it was just a case of Indian film music and English music being easier to shake my body to and being much more easier to sing it in bathrooms everywhere. |
