Started playing Chess when I was 6. My uncle who had played at the National level taught me. My grandfather believed that playing chess is not good for kids. My brother and I were taught behind closed doors in a clandestine manner by my uncle.
Some memorable moments: 1. Winning against my brother for the first time 2. Winning against my uncle for the first time 3. Watching Vishwanathan Anand play at Tal Chess Club in Madras 4. Playing against G.B. Prakash, school-mate then and a top IM in India now and getting whipped. 5. Beating the AP state chess champion in a simul game with black in 1992. 6. Seeing Jan Timman, Eric Lobron, Vishwanathan Anand, Boris Gelfand, Gata Kamsky among others at Sanghinagar, Hyderabad, India in July-August of 1994. 7. Seeing Vishy Anand vs Gary Kasparov in New York for the World Champoinship. 8. Winning the student award at UCONN Open, in the process drawing with Bill Curdo, recognized by USCF as the longest active Competitive Chess player in US. |
