Manchester/Salford, England
From January - July 2004, I lived on a housing estate in Salford, Greater Manchester, England.  I worked with youth who lived on the estate.  The estate was subsidized housing, called "projects" here in the U.S.  I led the Dreamscheme project on the estate and organized community work projects for the children to earn points which could be exchanged for trips of their choice.  Here are a few photos.  I am a bit limited, though, in what I can post b/c Child Protection Policy prohibits me from showing clear views of the faces of the children.
Lads Club Computer
One of the lads helping my co-volunteer set up the computer in our house.
CPR
Pictured on a Morissey album, this was two doors down from my house, and where a lot of the children's activities were held.

One of the community work projects had the children, as young as 6, learning CPR and First Aid. (Held at the Lads Club)
Store
Partycipation, the Dreamscheme conference.  Colin, a friend and worker for dreamscheme, sings with his son.
The "corner" store on the estate.  Just a house down from me.  It was nice and convenient and I could buy credit for my mobile phone there, too!

Showing off
One of the children at Partycipation showing off his craft.  I brought about ten people altogether to the conference, and I was really proud of our showing.
My humble abode in Salford.  My bedroom was upstairs, the upper front window was mine and it was fun to look out and talk to the kids.  A bit ghetto, yes, but fun.
In our house
The kids would often come to our house, even when no projects were scheduled.  We all lived in the same estate, so they would just drop by.  We didn't mind, though, as we realized it was those times that they needed us most.  Here are a few of the children in our living room.  The place came furnished, and you can really see the clashing loud colors and patterns here!
