| My new lab!! As many of you know, I begin my PhD program this fall (2004), working with infectious disease in wildlife. My desk is in the glassed in cubicle area in the background of this photo. |
| Here is Otto, a purebred, beatiful German Shepherd someone thoughtlessly abandonned at the landfill in Buford (outside of Atlanta). We are working to rehabillitate and place him. |
| Another shot of Otto. |
| Final shot of Otto. |
| Here is an evening shot of my home late summer 2004- note hanging pots of flowers, but still barren porch. *sigh* |
| Here's a shot of the front of our house, early Spring 2004. That's Geraldine napping to the left. Just beyond the tress in the background is our cow-owning neighbors, the Days. They have a beautiful Angus and Hereford herd that is thankfully quiet, and unfortunately aromatic when the wind is just right. Thankfully that's rare :) Hopefull as it keeps getting warmer, more plants and flowers will fill the currently barren front porch. |
| Also Spring, 2004, before the trees have gotten their leaves, here is a shot of our little fire place, a nice place to sit in the evenings. In the shade are Other Dog and Othello napping. |
| Because you can't live in the middle of nowhere and NOT have a dog tied out back near a dilapidated building. You just can't. (The little white box protects our well)(The dog is Othello, aged 1 1/2 years) |
| The infamous "Other Dog". Some of you have heard the Saga of OD- he was adopted as a present to an older couple down the street in late September 2003. They, like everyone else on the block, do not fence their dog, so he found us by early October. After he had a few sleepovers with his best buddy Othello (they are both about 1 year old at this time), I contacted his owner, to see if they realized he was "lost". Come to find out they live just down the road, and they (and their vet) exlained the situation with: "Well, You know, Huskies roam..." No, Ma'am, he doesn't "roam" he leaves your house in the morning, comes to my house. When I leave in the morning, he's at my house, when I come home, he meets me at my mailbox (he sleeps in the bushes waiting to hear our car), and he sleeps on my back porch steps at night. As far as I can tell, he only goes home to eat. There is a clear track across the field that leads to his house. "Roam" Indeed. *sigh* We've taken to calling him "Guiness" Lately, for his color. (His owners call him "Shep", but let's face it, he's never home to hear it) But for the last time, he is NOT my dog! NOT. NOT. |
| Here's Other Dog (aka Guiness) and Othello playing Tug of War. |
| Agent Orange. Here she is almost 3 months after The Ordeal. You'll notice her eyes are healed, and the hair on her neck is growing back. The feeding hole is all healed up now, and she is completely back to her normal, eevil self. Note her baleful stare. |
| Ok, these next few shots are actually from Summer 2003, at my Intermediate Search and Rescue course at the Univ. of West Georgia. This is a shot of "Incident command, where one of the teams is coordinating their search. Our mission, essentially, was to wear full rescue gear and find a missing person (aka crash test dummy somewhere in the woods). |
| Here's my team, heading up a road to the point where our "vic" was last seen. Our missing person is a 5 year old boy wearing camo. Lesson: Don't let your kids wear camo in the woods by themselves. That kid was wicked hard to find. Try some neon for crissakes. |
| Here's an unrelated shot of some ruins where we were searching for our missing boy. This is a really pretty state park near Carrollton, GA (near the AL border). This used to be a power plant on the river. Thankfully our missing kid wasn't in this area. We ended up finding him over 2 miles from where his "parents" had last seen him, over hill and dale. He had a note taped to his chest that read "Unconscious, broken left femur, superficial scratches to face, hands, and arms." We taped him up and slugged him back to incident command, the second by a hair of 3 groups. |
| In the earliest days of spring 2004 in Stephens, GA, we took a walk. Here's a photo series of our little trip :) |
| Here is a shot of Leroy and I looking out a window while visiting friends in Tampa, FL. |
| Here's a work by an infamous graffiti artist in London. His stencils are really worth checking out. |
| Ha! A ridiculous shot from one of my favorite creature features, Deep Blue Sea! |
| Finally, pics up of the Bahamas trip. I went with Leroy's family on a Disney cruise. It was honestly awesome! This pic is from our day spent at Cast Away Cay- this is a couple sailing while Leroy and I were kayaking. |
| A not so friendly, but curious visitor ;-) We saw this barracuda (or a close relative?) while snorkeling at Cast Away Cay. |
| Fish! Also seen snorkeling. |
| This shot is of a stingray (or relative) in a "lagoon" pool part of the awesome network of such pools around Atlantis, a hotel complex on Paradise Island. Parts of these pools can be seen underwater as an aquarium as well in the lobby of the Atlantis! Easily the coolest aquarium I've ever been to. |
| Here's a pic of Leroy in front of a lagoon pool at Atlantis. |
| Starfish seen, among many, snorkeling. |
| Leroy threatening to smack me- probably precipitated by a pithy comment about his mother ;-) |
| The glorious front entrance to UGA's vet school. |
| Here's my lab at UGA. You'll note an utter lack of people...that's because unfortunately the only person that works there was taking the picture at the time... |
| A shot of the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic Facility in Athens. If you're interested in helping out with the work, just go to www.rfbd.org and look to see your nearest loaction. It's fun! |
| Here's a rather frumpy picture of me reading a biology text at RFB&D. |
| A georgeous picture from our trip to the mountains Fall 2003. Must see the area if you can in the fall! |
| Easily the...oddest (?)...scariest? thing I've ever seen. So who is this for, exactly? God? Planes? It's HUGE! Needless to say I got a picture and got the heck out. |
| This river is at the base of a 200 ft dam in NC. Here's Leroy on our visit Fall 2003. That water comes from the bottom of a 200ft deep lake, and is COLD. |
| Here's me standing next to the same river. |
| Here's the view behind our house. The house in the distance is our landlord's brother's house, and it is the only residence in acres and acres of land we are allowed free access to. The field you see now is bright green this winter (2003) with Sorgham. the lake is enormous, and the dogs love it! |
| Imagine my surprise when one night, late after work, Fall 2003, I get home to find a note on the front door saying "I'm around back". That goofy boy of mine had set up the tent, and more importantly, stolen all of my blankets so that we could spend the night sleeping on the cold ground outside ;-). It was actually wonderful- there's a screen at the top of the tent, and the stars out where we live are just fantastic. A benefit to living just past the middle of nowhere ;-) |
| Here's a shot of Othello trying desperately to gain entrance to the house after playing in the lake. |
| A very pretty picture of Skinner, fall 2003. |
| The closest I could get Geraldine and Othello to pose for a picture Fall 2003. |
| An action shot of all 3 pups, the boys ganging up on Geraldine, as usual. Poor dog. ;-) |
| Ha! This was on the front page of the Athens Banner Herald, Dec 1, 2003. I was in this class! Sorry, was a shock to see my phys. notes on the front page. Anyway, here's Dr. Brown, teaching us all about arterial blood pressure regulation. |
| That handsome red head ;-) |
| A crazy Hapkido demo shot- and no, I've not done that :-D |
| Here is a pic of an Aikido demonstration (not my dojo). This is likely midway through a "flip slap" which is being done by the guy in white to avoid a broken wrist by what looks to be kote gieshe (outside wrist turn, being done by the nage in black). I've actually done the same thing many times now, in both positions (uke and nage). Mine's not always as pretty ;-) |
| My sister, Elisha, striking a pose at Lake Lanier, July 4, 2002. :-D Sorry, guys, she's taken. ;-) |
| Still at the lake, Justin's looking restless. Yeah, me too, buddy ;-) |
| Here's a shot from my time with the Herd July 4, 2002. Here we are at Lake Lanier, about to set out with innertubes on the lake. George and Drew are making themselves useful ;-) That's Joshua to the left. |
| *grin* My three nephews devouring presents, Christmas 2002. In the foreground is the eldest, Joshua, to the right is the youngest, Jordan, looking awed. The boy on the left, asking a question, is Justin. Their ages here are 4,6,8. |
| A picture of my brother-in-law George, xmas 2002. Looking sharp ;-) Thanks goes to Santa and company for the jacket. |
| Here is a shot of Jordan and Othello, winter 2002! So cute. Jordan is my youngest nephew (4 in this photo) and Othello is my youngest dog (3 months in this photo). |
| Othello as a puppy! I'll get his newer pics up soon. He will be 1yr old in October. |
| Here is a pic of the entire falls at Amicalola State Park. |
| *grin* So this is the sign at the top of the falls. We climbed up those 425 steps from the cross bridge. There were an additional 175 below that :) |
| Here's the view from the very top of the falls. You can see the walkway far below where we came up. December 2002 |
| Here is a "duck" that we saw on our trip to TN in August 2002. It's one of those trucks that is also instantly a boat :) Not the feather fowl. |
| My project assignment (For Biochemistry 8010, Fall 2002), anthrax edema factor. Here (in blue) is calmodulin (human protein) with 2 calcium ions in orange. Supposedly this is the active for of EF...huh But I thought calmodulin would be doubled over in that case? Eh. |
| Beautiful shot of cutaneous anthrax, for those of you who thought anthrax was only in letters. Yes, I included it in my oral report :-D To see my total project, go here: www.arches.uga.edu/~snmcgraw/bcmb8010 |
| Here is the entire EF factor protein (see the white chain is the smaller section shown in the above link) If you look, you can see two "star" type shapes in the chains. These are nice examples of twisted beta-sheets! Neat huh? Oh shut up. It's neat. I need to get back to work and quit procrastinating *grumble* |
| What I earned this weekend (Oct 2002)! *grin* Yes, badges. (Please, no Blazing Saddles quotes! I've heard it already!) |
| Here's my certificate for basic. Can't wait for the intermediate class in spring 2003!! UPDATE (7/03) I've passed Intermediate and now have a badge denoting "Intermediate" status as well :) I have a couple pics of that, which I'll develop..soon ;-) |
|
Me at the bookstore at the Chatanooga, TN Aquarium (I went in August, 2002). |
|
This fish is actually from the Charleston, NC Aquarium, which I visited for my birthday 2002 |
|
Here is a sandtiger shark at the NC aquarium |
|
While I was in Charleston, I visited the USS Yorktown museum. VERY cool. Here is a shot of the Yorktown. |
|
A fighter plane in the hanger deck of the yorktown. |
|
From the deck of the Yorktown, I saw dolphins! The one curled up here is literally making circles chasing a fish. I could here them clicking even from the deck! |
|
At the Yorktown was also this submarine. Can't even think of imagining living in such tight quarters... |
|
This is Skinner, my Amstaff, in GA visiting my family this past Christmas (2000). Poor, poor soccer ball... |
|
Here are Skinner and I sitting on a wall with about a 30 foot drop just to the right in Key West. |
|
Here's Leftwich, Skinner and I visiting the Southern-most point in the continental U.S., Key West. |
|
Here's an old shot of Leftwich, looking coy. |
|
Skinner again! Looking out over the waters of the Gulf. |
|
Skinner in the snow! Catching a trend here? |
|
Here's Skinner with my cousins! Christmas, 2000. |
|
Here's Leftwich, Skinner and I posing by some skeletons of pirates. Or some metal facimile. Whatever :) Key West, 2001 |
|
Here's Geraldine tumbling Shai, my former foster. She's been placed! |
|
Geraldine and Salem, back at the old apartment. Salem's with my parents now. |
|
Here's Bradley, formally "Brad Pit". He is my current foster, and up for adoption. |
|
This shot is of myself, taken by Jennifer Nuchereno when I modeled for her portrait project in her photography class at PBCC while we were in high school. |

This next is of me on Flagler Beach, on the 4th of July of 2000. |
![]() |
This photo is of an artesian well that has water bubbling up into an ornamental pond in a state garden in Flagler Beach. The place is beautiful, and I recommend visiting if you're ever in the area with time to kill. |

This pic is of my 2 best friends, Lauren and Jen, and, of course, Elvis. |
![]() |
Johann in Battle gear. |
![]() |
Angie and Colleen, friends in Jupiter, FL. Angie is dressed up as a Hare Krishna as her means of advertising a radio station in a contest...she didn't win, but she certainly made some friends. |
![]() |
Susie and I at a Historical site in downtown Macon, GA. |
![]() |
These are the Frechettes, the couple that adopted Termite-for more pics of termite, check his own page, here. |
![]() |
Here I am, dressed up for our Junior Prom. Guess I should say I'm glad I went...or something. |
![]() |
Here I am with an Anatolian Puppy. I've decided I want an Anatolian Shepherd, hopefully when I have more room-for more info on the breed, email me. |
![]() |
Here is Kafador, the best Anatolian you'll ever see! |
![]() |
Kafador again. |
![]() |
This is my dog, Geraldine. She appears to be something like a German Shepherd/Dobermann Cross. She's a great dog. |
![]() |
Here's Geraldine again, looking pathetic! She's *patiently* awaiting some attention by the kitchen door.... |
![]() |
This is Seren, the house kitten....although she appears to be more mine than anything...oh boy. She's a great little kitten, although her favorite pastime, second only to the midnight-toe-attack, is, as you can see, whining. :) |
![]() |
This is me outside of Hard Rock Cafe, Atlanta. |
![]() |
This is Yak, an American Staffordshire Terrier I helped rescue and rehome. He is now in Tennessee. |
![]() |
This is Rugged Lark, a famous quarter horse. Here, he is about to lay down. You'll notice he has no bridle on! We saw this and other amazing horses at a show in Ocala a few months ago. (I have other pics, if anyone's interested) |
![]() |
This is me kayaking at Lake Wauburg, a recreational area owned by UF. I've seen deer, and of course, many many alligators there. |
![]() |
This is just an amazing shot of an 18.1 ft Austrailian Saltwater Crocodile being fed in captivity. IF I get that job in Austrailia-I can't wait to see some of these! They've been caught at up to 30 ft!! |
