More Than You Could Know
By: Jane McCracken
Part 6
The rest of the time they had flew by. They went hunting and caught a deer,
which they cut up and shared with their new wolf friends! They fished, and
swam and went on long walks in the woods. Before they knew it, their two
weeks were up. Logan suggested staying another week, which Victor eagerly
agreed. So he called the real estate lady and arranged to keep the cabin
for another week. Then he called the school. He first spoke to the professor,
who saw no reason why he had to come home; they knew how to reach him if
need be. He then spoke to Marie. She didn't have a problem with him staying
away. She was in the middle of final exams and had no time for anything except
studying. So, he was set. He expressed his love and affection to his young
girl, letting her know if she needed him, all she had to do was call.
"You got my number, right?"
"Of course. Don't worry 'bout me, I'm fine."
"OK, just keep your eyes open, just in case."
"I will. Just concentrate on having a good time!"
Logan smiled as he hung up the phone, relieved that everything was fine.
They did pretty much the same routine; hunting, fishing, hiking and swimming.
They had no disagreements or fights.
Logan explained that calling Victor 'Scott' was force of habit, not because
he was thinking about him. He told him he wouldn't be surprised if he accidently
called him 'Wheels' - a nickname he gave the Professor! But, he made it clear
that he would not. No more hurt feelings because of his carelessness!
They played the radio as the food cooked on the grill; some of the songs
that came on was: ZZ Tops' 'Rough Boys', Pat Benatar's 'Fire & Ice' and
Scandel's 'The Warrior'. They enjoyed themselves as they played air guitar
with the cooking utensils!
They ended their days playing cards, talking and tanning the skins of their
prey. They loved each other often, keeping both their demons away.
The time to go came too quickly for both of them. Neither one hid their sorrow
or regret as they kissed and hugged each other good-bye. They promised to
get together again, even for dinner and one night together. They drove together
until they had to separate; one going west and the other going south. When
they lost sight of each other, they had to light a cigar to combat the heartbreak
they felt.
