‘What’ll I do when you are far away and I am blue, what’ll I do?

What’ll I do when I am wondering who is kissing you, what’ll I do?

What’ll I do with just a photograph to tell my troubles to?

When I’m alone with only dreams of you that won’t come true, what’ll I do?’

Logan laid in his bed and listened to the sounds that floated out of Scott’s room. When the song started up again, Logan threw his covers off and headed out the door. "Enough is enough," he thought to himself. "Fifteen rounds of ‘What’ll I Do’ is enough."

He knocked lightly on the door four times. When he didn’t receive an answer, he opened the door and walked in. He looked around the room and saw Scott sitting on the floor with his head in his hands. Although he was silent, Logan knew he was crying, by the way his shoulders shook and the smell of saltwater in the air. He knelt down by the field leader of the X-Men and placed his hand on his shoulder.

"Hey Cyke, ya alright?" Logan asked softly.

At the feel of Logan’s touch, Scott slowly became aware of his surroundings.

"Oh God, Logan!" Scott cried as he turned his tear-stained face to Logan and said, "I would be alright if only it would stop! Please Logan, I beg of you, make it stop!"

Scott threw himself into Logan’s arms and cried into his chest, clutching desperately at his arms and back.

"What Scott? Make what stop?" Logan asked quietly, puzzled.

"My heart! My heart won’t stop screaming! Please Logan, I don’t care how you do it, cut it out, stab it, anything, just make it stop! I can’t stand any more!"

Logan held Scott tightly to him and cooed soft, comforting words in his ear as he stroked his back and hair.

"It’ll stop, in time. You’ll see, it’ll get easier the more each day passes. You’ll never forget, but it won’t hurt as much when you think about her."

"I can’t! If I do, I’ll go crazy! I was with Jean for so long, I don’t know how to function without her! I’ll never make it, I can’t be without her! Oh God, I wish I were dead!" Scott wailed, his tears soaking the front of Logan’s t-shirt.

"Don’t say that! Yes, you can. I ain’t sayin’ it’ll be easy, but I’ll be there to help you every step of the way," Logan encouraged.

"Do you promise?" Scott asked, taking a shuttering breath.

"Yes, I promise. Now," he gently pushed Scott away and stood up. "I’ll be the first one to admit, this song is hauntingly beautiful, but let’s give it a rest. What d’ya say?"

Scott nodded his head as he wiped his nose on the back of his hand and sniffed.

"Let’s get you cleaned up and then put you to bed. You’re starting to look terrible," Logan stated as he helped Scott to his feet and led him into the bathroom.

Scott washed his hands and face, then changed into pajamas. When Logan started turning down the bed cover, Scott backed away, shaking his head. "No, I can’t sleep there anymore. I’ll sleep on the floor, anywhere, but not there. Not ever again."

"OK, you can sleep in my room," Logan reasoned, as he went to the door. He made sure everything was turned off, then shut the door and headed down the hall, with Scott close behind.

Once in Logan’s room he pointed to the bed and said, "climb in." Scott snuggled under the covers and let out a mournful sigh. Logan got in next to him and held him in his arms.

"Sweet Jesus, what’ll I do?" Scott muttered before falling into a fitful sleep.

"Well, what ever ya do, ya won’t be doin’ it alone," Logan whispered as he kissed Scott on the temple. Then closing his eyes, he stroked Scott’s cheek with the knuckles of his hand and fell asleep.
