Concerned about the Internet?

So your client walks in, sits down next to your terminal and says: "I found this deal on the Net for some hot spring resorts in Hokkaido, book it for me!"

Quick. What do you do?

A.Tell him to take three brochures and call you in the morning.

B.Ask your CRS for advice.

C.Retire to the library and spend a day plowing through directories.

D.Go directly to the Internet.

If you answered D, then youve got what it takes to become a Cyber Travel Specialist. Your client did a lot of work already and you probably would have booked that hot spring trip on the spot.

Internet - Friend or Foe?

The Internet and the World Wide Web are the future of the travel industry. As a professional information expert, your success depends on your ability to access massive amounts of information and find answers fast in both the CRS and the Internet.

Click on this link: Cyber Travel Specialist.

Take a test. You may win a scholarship to become a CTS.

Summer's comming. Time to shift gears.
ASTA Convention takes on a mood of urgency, as thousands of TAs and hundreds of suppliers shift into high gear to promote and sell the enormous inventory of travel specials that become avalable every day of the week.
TAs will want answers:

  • Is the travel industry matching America's economic boom?
  • Is the travel industry getting its fair share of our booming economy?
    *Domestic air up 3.6%
    *International Air up 5.1%
    *Cruises up 6-8%
*Car rentals up due to higher rates
*Arilines: D&I traffic up 3.4%; Seat Capacity up 5.7%; Passenger gain 4.1%
  • Is hotel profitability peaking?
*120,000 new hotel rooms added to the US inventory in 1999
  • With all of the volume TA's are struggling to come to grips with declining commission earnings.
EXAMPLE: OCT/8/99 United Airlines cut commissions again with a cap of $50 on domestic tickets and a max of $100 on international tickets.
