Rites of Passage Rites of passage mark significant and important changes / turning points in an individuals life. These ceremonies help one to understand their new direction in life. They further act as a reminder, for others, to regard the honored individual in their newly aquired role, whatever that may be. Sacred rites may fall into one or more of three phases: separation, evolution and intergration. Separtion; the child who leaves the mothers womb or the spirit that leaves the body at death. Evolution; childhood to adolescence, learning to be independent,/adulthood, engagement. Intergration; Fully accepting ones new role in life, Handfasting/Marriage, New Parents, Mentors, Role Models, Education, self dedications/intiations. |
