| Take the Weekend By Debby Disclaimers: none of them are mine warnings: a few cuss words, not many:) Grabbing the glass door by its handle, Jim pulled it opened and held it so that Simon could enter the building in front of him. Simon nodded his thanks as he pulled his well-gnawed cigar from his mouth. You know I really hate those city council meetings, Jim. He said, pausing so that Jim could catch up to him. I know Sir. Jim rubbed a hand over his face and walked beside his captain to the elevator. Why exactly did I need to be there this time around? Simon smiled slowly and rolled his cigar between his fingertips. Captain? Misery loves company, Jim Grand. Jim shook his head; unable to suppress the easy grin in response to Banks soft chuckling. He knew that in reality, one of the city councilmen had requested his presence in order to give a play by play report from one of their most recent cases. It had been another stressful week for Major crimes. Three ongoing cases had come to a head at the same time sending detectives in all directions at once trying to close them all. In the end, it had worked, and now they were on their second day of catching up on paperwork. Jim needed a break but the city council meeting was not what hed had in mind. Jim? You coming? Simons voice brought him out of his musings and he realized hed missed the doors of the elevator opening. Im coming. Youre okay arent you? Simons brow creased with worry lines as he carefully observed his best detective. Im fine Simon, just thinking. Dont hurt yourself. Jim made a face. You know youre sounding more like Sandburg everyday. The laughter died and the smile fell from Simons face. Dont even joke about that. He ordered harshly but Jim could hear the humor underneath. With a knowing smile he just shrugged. His thoughts turning to his guide. Blair needed a break, he knew that much. His friend had been running full speed for four days, getting no more than three hours of sleep a night. Jim had noticed as they ate breakfast that it was finally catching up to his partner. They really needed some kind of a break. Simon? Yeah? Simon waited expectantly. You think you can spare Sandburg and I for a long weekend? Now? There was a youve got to be kidding tone to Simons response. We really need a break Simon. Simon sighed and looked at the floor. I dont know Jim, I really want to say yes but, he shook his head, let me check on a few things and let you know later this afternoon. Fair enough. Jim conceded. The elevator doors dinged open the two men moved towards the major crimes office. Do I hear Mozart? Simon asked. Sounds like it. Jim said, already trying to suppress a laugh at what he could hear behind the loud classical music. What the? Simon moved quickly into the office but stopped just inside the door, his mouth hanging open in dismay. Jim followed and leaned back against the door frame, covering his mouth with one hand, again focusing only on not laughing out loud. Simon looked at Jim, then at the scene before him and then back at Jim again. Could you hear this? Just when we got off the elevator, Sir. Jim managed. Further into the room desks had been shoved aside and Megan, Rafe and Brown were following Blair through some kind of almost synchronized routinein their chairs. Joel and a small group of others stood off to the side pointing and laughing. Jim watched as Brown turned into Rafe instead of going in the opposite direction and lost it when Blair yelled, I said left, Brown! LEFT! Simon looked at the group and then back at Jim now laughing outright. Shaking his head he smiled weakly. Take a long weekend. He ordered, before striding forward to put and end to the entertainment. Take the damned weekend. |
