"Not so old, mother. I'll serve under him gladly."
"When your uncle died, Captain Hornblower came to me and told me how brave he was and a lot more. I was young then, and flattered, for some reason. He said Archie was the best man he'd ever met; and then he blubbed, very dignified; you understand."
"For heaven's sake, mother." Robert throws up his hands.
