Quietly

Quietly.
Much is quietly now
But quietly
He dips the quill in the ink
and writes
And returns it to the inkstand
and sighs
quietly
Quietly
He rereads the paper he has written on
and cries
And allows the tears to stain the parchment
and regrets
quietly
Quietly
He dreams about the girl-child
who meant
More than anything he's even known before
he aches
quietly
Quietly
He feels a suffering that will never change
his heart
Begins to scream and cry out for her
that girl
but quietly
Then
Suddenly
Loudly
The door is flung open and he looks up
stunned, for
There is the doorway of his little quiet room
she stands
suddenly
Loudly
she calls out and runs to him
knocking into
His desk. The inkstand falls and black ink wells
all over
suddenly
Quietly
He smiles and feels his soul welling hope like
the ink
That runs down onto the floor for
he knows
suddenly
Quietly
Today at last after all the hours
he's waited
After all the tears he's shed over this girl-child
he will
quietly
die with her at his side
But quietly
For much is quiet now
