Ohh, it's bright! she squealed, laughing and shading her eyes.

Sure it is, girl, said Coalhouse, smiling. The sun's on the hubs, and I keep her polished.

Don't I know it! You spend more time prettying that car than you do me.

That's because you don't need it. Coalhouse grinned and rubbed the spot with his sleeve. There. It doesn't just make bright lights; you can see yourself in it. You're already pretty as sunshine and daisies.

And you're spoiling me dreadful, Coalhouse. Oh! she cried, Oh, Lord, I'm so happy!

Me too, Sarah. I like to see you smile.
