Le Tour du Monde

Written for Kali.

Fix paid his bill, but did not immediately leave the tavern. Of course, time was of the essence, and he repeated it to himself, constantly shifting his feet; he must go on after the bank thief, now that the loyal manservant was out of the way--but the poor fellow lay there on the table, with his head resting on his arms, looking entirely innocuous and gentle, and Fix had begun to feel guilty already. He reached out without thinking and flicked a bit of brown hair away from the man's face.

His fingers hovered as badly and reluctantly as his feet had. For some inexplicable reason, it made him shiver: and he brushed his hand over the man's cheek; and suddenly bent down and kissed him.

And then, with his face very rigid in astonishment, walking a little shakily, Fix did leave the tavern, as quickly as he could.
