Are You There?
"Why, I've not seen Cosette all day. Are you there, child?" he asked hopefully into the quiet house, pretending not to know, hearing a soft giggle beneath the bed.
("Are you there? Is he there?" she cried wildly into the quiet house, and Marius stayed her, touched her hair to say 'hush; calm'.)
"There you are!" he said, when she couldn't wait any longer and rushed out; he feigned surprise as he caught her; and they laughed.
("Here you are," she said, taking his hand in her little ones, feeling her heart hurt at his amazed eyes; and they wept.)
