Love

Written for Mum.

When the window-panes were dark,
And the sky outside was still
Stella came to the window
Stella came to the window
And looked out at the moon
Stella came to the curtain
Stella came to the curtain
And looked out at the moon

The curtain was tall and wide and thin
Transparent and made of silk
Through the curtain was the window
Through the window was the moon
The curtain was tall and soft and green
Lovely and made of silk
Stella watched through the curtain
Stella pressed close to the curtain
And looked out at the moon

When the moon was full she loved it
When the moon was a crescent she loved it
When the moon was only half-there she loved it
Through the curtain she embraced it
Through the curtain she kissed it
Through the curtain she watched it
For Stella loved the moon

When the water was frozen as glass,
And the pictures inside were still,
Luna came to the fountain
Luna came to the fountain
And looked down at the stars
Luna came to the waters
Luna came to the waters
And looked down at the stars

The fountain was deep and wide and clear
With reflections of all the world
Deep in the fountain was water
Deep in the water were stars
The fountain was high and huge and carved
Made of marble and filled with rain
Luna stood close to the fountain
Luna spilled fire in the fountain
And looked down at the stars

When the stars were bright she loved them
When the stars were pinpricks she loved them
When the stars shone through the clouds she loved them
Through the water she whispered
Through the water she sang
Through the water she wept
For Luna loved the stars

When the grass was silver with rain
And the flowers spread through the grass
Gaia ran through the earth
Gaia ran through the earth
And covered her feet in mud
Gaia twirled through the dirt
Gaia danced in the soil
And covered her feet with mud

The earth was big and kind and sweet
And smelled of the trees and the leaves
All over the earth things were growing
All the things that grew were alive
The earth was warm and cold and changed
And held her close when she smiled
Gaia leapt in the gardens
Gaia laughed in the forests
And held the earth in turn

When the earth was warm she loved it
When the earth was wet she loved it
When the earth was cold and white she loved it
Through the earth she ran on her toes
Through the earth she jumped for the flowers just above her head
Through the earth she rode on horses of wind
And Gaia loved the world
