History
The Tanque Verde Valley Association has been in continuous existence since its incorporation in 1947. It is the oldest and largest organization of its type in Pima County.
The TVVA has been very active in supporting the community and providing a unified voice on a variety of issues. A brief list of past areas of involvement:
| | Supporting the establishment of, and contributing to the Bear Canyon Library. |
| | Maintaining the S-R (Low-Density) zoning in areas surrounding the Saguaro National Park. |
| | Maintaining the established zoning in the Tanque Verde Valley. |
| | Providing a public forum for issues and concerns of Tanque Verde Valley residents. Political and community figures have often addressed our twice annual general meeting to educate, and inform, and answer. |
| | Protecting riparian habitats. |
| | Promoting the building of the Agua Caliente bridge on Tanque Verde Road. |
| | Adopting two local roadways in an effort to maintain the appearance of the area. |
| | Establishing bike paths and horse trails. |
Boundaries
Our boundaries, and therefore our area of concern, are the Catalina Mountains (Coronado National Forest) on the North, the Rincon Mountains and the Saguaro National Park on the East, Irvington Road to the South, and Pantano Road on the West. We do, however, have community-wide concerns and offer support to organizations and areas with similar goals which lie outside this immediate area.
Purpose
The TVVA bylaws state The purpose of this association shall be to further and guide the orderly development of the area, to uphold zoning codes set forth in the Rincon Area Plan and in the Agua Caliente Sabino Creek Neighborhood Plan, and to preserve or improve the inherent scenic and ecological characteristics of the area.
Organization
The TVVA is a non-profit organization with no political affiliations or loyalties. Two general meetings are held annually, usually in April and October. The Board of Directors holds open meetings monthly and encourages members or local residents with community concerns to attend. Board members are volunteers who reside within our stated boundaries and are elected by the membership to serve a period of two years.
Community Role
The TVVAs large membership and half century of experience in representing the interests of the Tanque Verde Valley community enable the TVVA to quickly and effectively mobilize to address problems and work towards solutions. The TVVA functions within and for the community on issues as simple as resolving poor road conditions and as far reaching as inappropriate area zoning changes.
Neighborhoods have repeatedly called upon the TVVA and its broader community base when they feel the need for a more powerful voice in representing their local concerns. We exist for the purpose of offering that unified voice on issues which impact our community and our valley.
If you agree that our goals and community concerns are worthwhile and would like to support this organization as a member, or would like to take a more active part on the Board of Directors, please fill out the attached application.
