| I try to find my father - an Ukrainian jew, who emigrated, probably via Israel, to Canada My name is Gabriele Goesker, born Gabriele Hssinger. Since it was made possible by Gorbatschow with the Perestroika - about 12 years now - I try to find my father. Several times I tried with the Red Cross but was not successful. Through a new source I finally found out now that my father migrated in 1981 from Kiev to London/Ontario, Canada. This is the story in very brief: My mother, Charlotte Hoessinger (now widowedCharlotte Schumak) met a Soviet soldier, Mark Oskaroytsch Berstein, at about the end of WW2 in St. Poelten, Austria. They fell in love and I was born on 30. November 1946. My parents were still a couple, wanted to marry and my mother would have even emigrated to the then USSR, but due to the post war situation they were forced to keep their relationship secret and finally he was sent back home to Kiev in 1947 or 48. A few letters from him followed. Then rumours - false as I know today - were that he was deported within the former USSR. My mother married 2 years later but had always kept the picutres of and letters from my father. Now, after so many years of investigation from my side, I finally travelled to Kiev with some Ukrainian friends. Talks to the Red Cross, to registry officials and to former neighbours revealed the following: He married Mira Staroselskaja, born 15th October 1924 The wedding was around 1948. Their son (my half-brother!!!!) Alexander Mark(ovitsch) Berstein was born on 4th December 1950. My brother Alexander emigrated probably in the late 70's to Canada and in 1981 his parents Mark and Mira followed him to LONDON / ONTARIO. WHO KNOWS THEM OR THEIR WHEREABOUTS ??? I really hope my father is alive and well and I would like to meet his family - if they do. But I do not want to interfere with his life or anything but just to know who he is, how he has been. My widowed mother and I both live in Germany today, she in Bavaria, me near Stuttgart.. If there is somebody out there who knows something or is seriously is willing to help me in any way, please email to: [email protected] If you write in English then please also copy my son and his wife as they will have to translate into German for me: [email protected] |
