Meditation is the art of relaxing your body and entering Alpha so that you
may communicate with the spirit world, heal yourself or harness energy.
There are many ways to accomplish this art. These include Color Calm, Seven
Levels, Sun Circling, Tibetan Breathing, Chakra Breathing, Sheep in a Paddock,
and Flying Balloons.
The first step in meditating is to relax your body. Sit or lie comfortably
where you will not be disturbed. If you would like, cast a circle around
yourself before beginning and put on atonal (non-rhythmic) music. Start at your
feet and feel the relaxation enter your body, making each foot feel heavy and
tingly. Move the relaxation up your legs into your thighs, your abdomin, your
stomach, your chest, your neck and shoulders, your arms, the back of your head
and ears, your face and, finally, into your eyes.
Once your body has completly relaxed, select an Alpha meditation:
Color Calm
Select a calming, restful color: physical restful-green; mental
restful-indigo; spiritual restful-blue. Breathe in that color, feel it
entering your body through your pores.
Picture the sun in your mind's eye. Trace the outer edge of the sun and
continue with your mind to spiral into the center of the sun. Feel the sun
entering your body through this spiral.
Tibetan Breathing
Focus completely on your breath entering and leaving your nostrils. Notice
how your breath is cooler as you breathe in and warmer as you breathe out.
Chakra Breathing
Place your hands over each chakra and direct your breathing from that
point with your mind. There should be a tingling or warmth under your hands.
Sheep in a Paddock
Picture a paddock full of sheep. Each sheep has a number and/or a specific
color. Let the sheep jump over the fence counting down from seven, or until
all the sheep have left the paddock.
Flying Balloons
In your mind's eye, you are holding a handful of brightly colored
balloons. One by one, release the balloons until there are no
more.
Once you have decended into Alpha, you may interact with the spirit world,
heal yourself, harness energy or even practice astral projection!
Interacting with the Spirit World
In the Alpha state, the spirit world is readily available to be explored.
Look around you. Are you in a forest? A desert? In the mountains? Take a walk.
Observe everything. You might meet animals, dragons, faeries or even other
people withing the Spirit World.
Always be polite to those you meet. Introduce yourself immediately. If they
do not respond, do not fret. Just smile and move on.
Healing Yourself
Using colors, picture the "injured" part of your body. It will appear to
be a dark and ugly color. Bathe that part in the healing color. Watch as the
healing color seeps into the injured part, removing the ugliness.
Harnessing Energy
Speak to the God or Goddess or other power of your chosing. Ask them for
energy to perform a specific task or for general, everyday life. See that
energy as a color, feel it enter your body.
Remember, once you have entered the Alpha state, you must exit again. To do
this, just go backwards in whichever path you entered. Have the sheep re-enter
the paddock, the balloons float back to your hands, the chakras closing, the sun
spiraling outward from your body, etc.
Next, you must "un-relax" your body. Feel the heaviness and the tingly
feeling flow out of your body, starting from your eyes, then moving to your
face, your head, your shoulders and neck, your chest, your stomach, your
abdomin, your thighs, your legs and down into your feet before being released
altogether.
Questions
'How do I know that I am doing it right?'
There is no one way or right way to meditate. The only predictable thing
in a successful meditation is that you will experience a feeling of supreme
peace and wholeness, even elation. This is especially true if you contact
another in the spirit world.
'I can't seem to concentrate...my mind keeps wandering.'
A wandering mind is an undiciplined mind. It must be trained through
focusing. That is why in order to enter the Alpha state, you must focus on
specific colors or numbers.
'I don't have time to meditate.'
Time is what you make of it, so make the time.
To ensure that you have successful meditations, be sure to set the scene and
practice.
Some tips for setting the scene:
1. Make your meditation regular, at the same time.
2. Establish a ritual.
3. Find a quiet place where you can always go to meditate.
4. Don't become too comfortable, or you'll fall asleep!
