4 sailors from TYC and 1 from KYC took part in a 420 course for ex Optimist sailors hosted by KYC and coached under the auspices of the Sabah Sailing Association. The coach was Leonard Chin who had just as much fun teaching as the sailors did learning the 420.
From TYC were the girls Melissa Pang, Samantha Pang and Larvene Wong and Alistair Pang. KYC's sole participant was Kathy Chiu.
Only the main and jib were taught. The use of Spinnakers will be at a later stage when they have first mastered the 420 basics. Capsize drills and trapezing techniques were taught besides roll tacking and roll gybing using the 1-2-3 method.
