Welcome

The Womens Archivists Roundtable (WAR), formerly the Womens Professional Archival Issues Roundtable, is an interest group within the Society of American Archivists (SAA). The Society is the oldest and largest national archival association in North America, serving the needs of more than 3,400 individual and institutional members in the areas of continuing education, career opportunity, publishing, mentoring, advocacy, networking, and professional resources.

WAR exists to ensure that the SAA conscientiously deals with issues that affect the status of women within the profession and the Society. The Roundtable also provides a Society-acknowledged forum for individual members to address issues of concern in this area. This mission was accepted by the membership at the 1998 annual meeting in Orlando, Florida. The formalized version is #I in the By-Laws.

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is part of the Roundtable's governance. Our job is to advise the Roundtable's Co-Chairs and help guide the Roundtable's activities. During the past few years, membership in the Committee has involved mostly sharing opinions via E-mail. We are hoping this year to revitalize and amend the Roundtable's goals and objectives, and we will need the Steering Committee's input in order to accomplish this effectively.

Current membership of the Steering Committee includes:
