Four Months, Four Days

I peer into your eyes
Losing my way in the pupils
I look away abashedly moments later
Only to find that 38 1/2 minutes had passed
Amazed, I grab your hand
And smile shyly
And caress your face
And start all over again

I can scarcely believe
How much time has passed
Since that wondrous day in August
Four months and four days ago
You were my birthday present 1 day late
Even now, I can still feel those kisses
And fledgling promises
And the first soft, gentle caresses
And how you asked me to be yours

Now, four months and four days later
You're still my favorite present
Though now you can be for Christmas
The religious connotations may have faded
But the main theme remains
'Tis the season to be giving
And forgiving one another
And love for thy neighbor
And I'm glad to spend it with you
