My Friends

Friends make life interesting, fun, and worth living!

Leawood Friends

I used to live in Leawood, Kansas, up until I was almost twelve. Although it’s been six years since I’ve lived there, I still have some friends there.
Kim Dicus - I have been friends with Kim since I was about 9 years old or so and still lived in Leawood, Kansas. We attended Leawood Elementary and later Leawood Middle School before I moved to Bailey. She lived fairly close to me, so I could just walk to her house. I visited her this summer when I passed through town on the way home from my Summer Scholars Program. We watched The Russians are Coming! The Russians are Coming! Next year, Kim is going off to KSU.
Michael Stoeckle - Michael and I first became friends when we were in third grade. Granted, it was not exactly for the right reasons, but that’s okay. We’ve remained friends of differing degrees over the years, and whenever I see him, we usually can get into a fairly good discussion of Star Wars, computers, or both.

School Friends

The "Triangle:" My two best friends
Amanda Horn - Amanda's and my story is actually rather funny. We used to absolutely despise each other! See, she had dated Trace for awhile, and then he dated me to spite her, and then he dated her again after dumping me. It wasn't until they had a huge fight and I found her crying at the Snowball dance that we really started to be friends. We're two very different personalities - I'm religious and rather naïve, whereas she doesn't care much for religion and is a lot more street smart than I. She's always supported me through all things - from when Orion and I first got together to our breakup and reuniting, as well as parental problems and friend problems. She's in Wisconsin with her boyfriend, Nick, right now, and I miss being able to run over to her house if something bad happens.
Trace - Trace and I have an interesting relationship. We "dated" from May to September of 1997, and then he dumped me for Amanda. He acted like the biggest jerk for awhile, but then he began being nicer to me. With classes and sports together, we saw each other all the time and became more and more close. We're just like siblings now - we care for each other, but we're always bickering. He's a runnaholic (at least he WAS before he started slacking in college!) and introduced me to cross-country. It's difficult to deal with him sometimes, because I'm more of an outspoken type and he doesn't talk too much.We worked together at JonesCyber Solutions in the QA department in cubicles right next to each other. Sometimes that's a good thing, sometimes bad, but always interesting.

Other friends...
Lia Rebits - Lia is a friend who is actually still at PCHS. She was in the band with me and is one of the few really good players that we have. We had history, band, and English together. One thing I really love about Lia is her open-mindedness. She usually is willing to hear both sides of the argument, andsoesn't make snap judgements. I have never seen Lia get angry before, although I have seen her frustrated at the same things I am. She's been such a wonderful friend this year, supporting when Trace, Amanda, and Orion were gone.
Jamie Wilcox - Jamie Wilcox was also in the band with me, and we have been friends for awhile. When we were both sophomores, we were the librarians for the band, and we always used to sing songs bemoaning our copying fate: "I'm not having any fun yet... because Mr. Cooksey gives us way too much stuff to go copy!!" Sometimes I'm a little short with Jamie, which I ought not do. She is so funny sometimes - she cracks me up!
Michelle Cullen - Michelle and I have just become friends this year. She is such a cool person -she's outspoken about EVERYTHING! She was supposed to be a junior this year, but graduated early. We can go off on the funniest tangents sometimes. Michelle's been really big in to Speech, travelling, and British-bashing. Now she's over in Switzerland, spending a year abroad before coming back and going to college.
Shannon Boatright - Shannon was on the cross-country team with me and will be a junior this year. Since I've gotten slower and she's gotten faster, we're running at about the same pace. She and I can talk about a variety of things, and she's a lot of fun to be with. We were in Drama together this past semester, and it was just a blast! She played Aunt Spiker in James and the Giant Peach and stole the show.
Justin Dotson - Justin is an interesting character. I met him when I was in seventh grade, and we've been friends since then. He's played the alto sax in the band since forever, and has been in my Chemistry and Physics classes. He and Lia doubled with me to prom. Sometimes he's so annoying, but other times he's great fun to be with. I haven't heard from him since school got out, so I don't know what he's been up to lately.
Cathy Johnston - Cathy is another friend that I've had since the seventh grade. Cathy's always had a cool sense of humor, and I enjoy hanging out with her.

Wash U Friends

Drew McKeown -  Drew McKeown is a cool person. He and I were pretty much inseperable while we were there at Wash U, and we had so much fun together. He lives in Herrin, IL, and I think I got him to stop complaining about its size when I told him about Bailey. Drew, I promise you I'll send you those TI-89 programs someday! Drew has been my POA (Personal Orion Advisor) since last year, helping me to get through the breakup, the sticky area of going back to being friends, and getting back together. Thanks Drew - now give me a call sometime, will ya? Drew is going back to Wash U in the fall.
Elizabeth Foster -  Elizabeth is another one of my cool Wash U friends, but haven't heard from her in awhile. She's going to Mt. Holyoke in massachusetts. She is a Star Wars and X-Files fanatic, obsessing particularly on Ewan McGregor and David Duchovny. She is so fun to be with! Elizabeth is from Kingwood, Texas, and since everything in Texas is big (or so it seems), her voice fits right in. I miss you, Elizabeth! Write me soon!
Jolie Petersen -  I also met Jolie at Wash U (which I guess is why she's under this heading, huh?). She's also LDS, and she and I went to sacrament meeting every week together while we were there. It was great fun, and over the months after Wash U, we've become even better friends through letters and phone calls. She wanted to go to BYU, but the entire application process got messed up, so she didn't get her application processed in time. She's gonig to Truman State in Missouri instead. With any luck, she might be able to transfer to BYU next year.

Church Friends

Olivia Crawford , Adam Crawford, Marion Crawford, Sister Crawford - I met Olivia at church, and even though there's a two-year age difference, we're still friends. I tutored Olivia in the resource room all this past year in math, so we saw a lot of each other. Adam was on the track team with me my sophomore year and in my CPI class last year. I served with him on the student council this past year. He loves the San Francisco 49ers, cars, and giving me a hard time. He's going to Georgia now to live with a Marion is going to school at Ricks College right now.  She had one of the lead roles in the production there last year and is enjoying college for the most part. Sister Crawford is their mother, and has lent me things and helped me out when things got tough. She is the Relief Society president right now. They've all been very supportive of me and are also just fun to hang out with.

The Egberts - (Sorry no picture). I met Brother Egbert in an interesting way. My brother and his daughter were in a second grade production about a month after I decided I wanted to join the Church. He noticed my overly-pinned and lettered jacket, and he started asking me about it all. He asked me where I wanted to go to college, and when I told him BYU, he was exceedingly surprised. From there, both Brother and Sister Egbert have helped me out in various ways over the past year - giving me rides to church before my parents stopped me, letting me know what's going on, and so forth. Brother Egbert even gave the talk on the Holy Ghost at my baptism. He makes educational cartoons in a series he calls Imagiplaytion.
